BEAUMONT (CBSLA) — An knife-wielding man died following an officer-involved shooting in Beaumont Friday night after police responded to a domestic disturbance call.
The incident happened in the 600 block of Michigan Avenue around 10 p.m. after a neighbor called police regarding a domestic disturbance around 6:30 p.m.
According to the neighbor, a woman was bleeding and distressed outside of a home, asking for her neighbors to help her.
Police arrived to find a male suspect, later identified as the woman’s husband, armed with what neighbors described as a very large knife.
“He had a very large kitchen butcher knife in his right hand…and the police immediately drew their weapons and told him to stop. They said ‘Sir, drop the knife, drop the knife,'” said neighbor Raymond Kent.
The man reportedly continued to move towards, leading to an officer opening fire.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was investigating.
